The chiropractic approach to healthcare is natural and non-invasive. It does not attempt to artificially stimulate or inhibit normal body function. Instead, by working with the spine and the other joints in the body, it taps into the important relationship between the nervous system and one’s state of wellbeing (because the nervous system controls and coordinates the functioning of every cell, tissue, organ and system of the body).
The systemic effects of an unhealthy spine are complex. Many illnesses may be manifested in the body due to abnormal physiological function caused by spinal misalignments. Therefore, by maintaining a healthy spine and proper nerve flow with chiropractic, the entire body is given the opportunity to work in harmony and to heal.
Although Dr. Tatiana works with a variety of chiropractic techniques, she primarily employs SOT (sacro-occipital technic). SOT is a comprehensive and advanced system of chiropractic that focuses on removing the cause of nerve malfunction with minimum force to restore and maintain health.
Craniopathy is a specialized field in Chiropractic that addresses the micro-motion of the cranium (skull), its distortions and the effects that it exerts on cerebrospinal fluid flow and the nervous system. Cranial distortions take place when the body is unable to adapt to a variety of stresses. These stresses may range from physical ones such as birth traumas, sports injuries and motor vehicle accidents, to chemical ones such as food additives, drugs and environmental pollution to emotional stresses. These ultimately may result in the cranial bones moving out of place, pulling on the brain, twisting the spine and impeding cerebrospinal fluid flow. This in turn creates toxicity, lack of nutrition to the brain and to the rest of the nervous system and in reduced nerve (information) flow to the entire body. The precise analysis and gentle correction in SOT cranial work can remove many of these effects and help restore the brain and nervous system to normal function.
Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique, another branch of SOT, helps to correct imbalances in different organ systems of the body. This technique helps to free up adhesions in the connective tissue around the involved areas, improve circulation, increase lymphatic drainage and facilitate proper sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve flow to the impaired organ(s), thereby giving them an opportunity to heal.
Although there are many forms of acupuncture today (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Auriculotherapy to name several), acupuncture had its birth in China where thousands of years ago ancient practitioners used finely sharpened stones and needles made of different metals (bronze, iron, gold and silver) to perform treatments. Today practitioners use fine, hair-thin, solid, filiform needles at precise points to activate the qi (energy) and blood flow in specific areas to treat specific health conditions. Please see the home page for details on some of the ailments that acupuncture treats.
Although Dr. Tatiana employs a variety of acupuncture approaches, her main modalities are Japanese and Chinese acupuncture as well as Auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture).
This technique involves the burning of an herb, mugwort, formally known as artemesia vulgaris or moxa for short, on or near specific acupuncture or other body points. Moxibustion was first implemented in Northern China where it is very cold. It serves to send deep heat or a signal into the areas in question to tonify or disperse qi or blood to promote healing. There are varying types of moxa and moxibustion techniques utilized for differing effects.
Cupping has become popularized in recent years by Hollywood actresses such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Olympic athletes such as Michael Phelps typically displaying their telltale circular bruise marks. Although these marks look bad, rest-assured that cupping is painless. It involves the use of glass cups in which a vacuum is created on different regions of the body. The practitioner can employ stationary cups or sliding cups. Either technique serves to bring up to the surface and release stagnant blood and qi from deeper areas of the body. Cupping is an effective treatment for pain, inflammation, sports injuries among other conditions. It has even been used to enhance sports performance.
Since antiquity the Chinese have recognized that certain plant, animal and mineral substances have energetic and healing properties. Over time they have meticulously characterized these medicinal substances according to their individual properties and uses, dosages and contra-indications and have combined them into precise formulas for healing a variety of different ailments. Chinese herbalists today use this knowledge to put together individualized prescriptions to help their patients/clients through the healing process.
Tuina is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicinal (TCM) bodywork or therapeutic massage therapy that can incorporate acupressure among many other techniques. Tuina which literally means to “pinch and pull” is not meant to be a relaxing massage instead it is designed to therapeutically address specific imbalances. Its approach can range from gentle to rather forceful. It is often used for acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions among other health conditions.

A variety of acute, chronic and degenerative conditions have been shown to respond to this type of treatment.
